Victorian Santa Christmas Cards - Blue and Green Santa Suits? Our distinctive selection of traditional, antique Victorian Christmas Cards feature a large and unusual selection of Victorian images that depict Santa Claus. During the Victorian Era (1837 – 1901) the very first Santa Claus pictures did not have the stereotype image of jolly Santa with a red suit – this did not come until a few years later. Instead, antique Victorian Christmas Cards depicted Santa wearing a variety of different colour coats including blue, brown, green and mauve. The different coloured Santa suits faded out by the beginning of the 1900's and the modern day depiction of Santa wearing a red suit, typically with a white fur trim, began to appear in the Edwardian era (1901 to 1910) and became standard in the 1920's. The red suited Santa featured in the vintage cards of this period and were popularised in 1931 by a famous Coca-Cola Christmas advertising campaign. However, there is one noticeable difference - Victorian images of Santa Claus depicted him wearing a variety of different colour coats including green, blue and mauve.
